What do search engines do?

There are millions of websites existing on the World Wide Web. Search engines ease the way for web users to find desired information from among countless websites.

Web users browse the web looking for informative content and search engines filter websites with useful and relevant content allowing them to access necessary information. The process of filtering websites by virtue of their quality and relevance to user search is known as search engine optimization.

How search engines work…

A web user will request information from a search engine by providing it with a word or phrase (keyword or key phrase) for that particular information.
The search engine will then use that keyword or key phrase to sort websites with relevant information. At a time, the search engine will display thousands of websites in order of their relevance to that user entered keyword or key phrase.
The search engine will then sort websites in order of their quality to display on their search engine results page.

Why is SEO important?

According to majority web users, websites within the first 5 SERPs is a safe bet for quality and relevancy. Where SEO is concerned, it shows that the website has followed search engine specified methods to reach top ranks. Search engine optimization is a highly specialized field of practice that follows a stringent process. Thus, high ranking websites spell quality and to web users in general, they reek in authenticity.

Web users will generally only visit websites enjoying top positions in SERPs (top ranking websites). They are favorable to taking positive actions on a website that appeal to them by way of quality of information it offers. ‘Positive’ action usually translates to paying up money for products or services. Consequently, this means profit generation for websites.

Basically, SEO is the process by which websites increase their web visibility and enhance their presence to get desired monetary results from their target audience.
