Designs of any kind face criticism whether they are good of bad. There are a lot of bad designs along with good ones in the web. Nobody makes a bad
web design purposely. These designers lack the proper knowledge about designing.
A good
website design reflects the quality of work, product and efficiency. There are some positive side and negative side of designing which makes your design good or bad. If we know these sides, we can easily differentiate a bad design from a good design.
There are some negative sides of
web design:
- Web page should not have black background with All-caps text from one end of the page to the other end.
- Lines should not break in the middle, looking like poetry.
- Check the links regularly or the website will bounce back with ‘File not Found’. This irritates the viewers.
- Never mention the browser settings and details.
- The subheadings should not be designed in such a way that the visitors mistake it for a button.
- Type sizes should be similar and they can be cool and trendy but large enough for reading.
- Small sizes of fonts should not be in italic form.
- No quotes and apostrophes in the web page.
- Edges of any graphic should be smooth.
- Making scrolls on the page are not desirable.
- Subheads should have proximity to their respective heads and keep them closer.
- Very large font or big buttons gives unsophisticated looks even if the page has a nice get up.
The positive side of
web design:
- A page fit within the screen and does not need any scrolling. Each and every page has complete visual impression even if they need a scrolling bar.
- Clean and clear page with links and useful information.
- Using meaningful font size and well designed buttons according to viewers of the website.
- Key to a good design is simplicity. A single visual with thought provoking text and navigation icons can create an interesting design.
- Different pages of the same designs need consistency or repetition.
- White space or a tidy page makes it inviting and soothing.
- Strong alignment and small buttons manage to accommodate more information on a tiny space.
- Using nice and soothing colors make a big difference in the page.
