Most Common Errors in Web Design
We learn from mistakes but this does not necessarily mean that you have the right to commit mistake after mistake and get away with it unscathed. This is not the case with website design. A slight mistake can have bigger implication that can cost you dearly if you do not pay attention. So, while designing a website next time, you need to check these issues otherwise, a bitter surprise is waiting for you at the end of the day:
What About The Search Box?
You cannot expect visitors take the pain of browsing your entire website, clicking every possible links to get the information that you need. Of course, your visitors are normal human beings like you and I and are expected to run out of patience. A search box needs to be there so that users can have the option to make a quick search to find out the information they are looking for.
Readability: Your design may have all the semblances of a great design but this should not be attained at the cost of readability. Do remember, if your readers fail to grasp the meaning that you want to convey through the texts because of poor readability, you may have to lose some potential clients. Are you ready to bear with this lose. We hope not. So, use descent color scheme, Sans serif typeface and shun visual gimmicks and we hope your readers will not have to strain their eyes to read the text.
Unorganized: Content is the most vital section of a website. It bridges the gap between the targeted audience and potential clients. Now it is the structure of the content that makes or breaks your prospect. Just putting a block content without any sub heading, bullet points, paragraphs etc is like committing suicide. You need to make it look good even when it is not.
Screen Resolutions: Since different pc users have different resolutions, it is virtually impossible for a website designer to stick to any particular screen resolution. As there is no immediate solution to this problem, you should rather stick to the de facto resolution 1024 x 768 pixels. However, you will still miss out on users, who might stick to different screen resolutions but there is no to escape it.
Interface Design: Stick to one particular design style and do not make a website within a site by changing the interface completely. It is confusing for the readers and do not cut any ice with the viewers. Use standard layout throughout the website as far as possible. Focus on consistency rather than confusing your visitors by adding some visual gimmicks.
Registration Form: The more, the better. Wrong. You cannot badger life of your visitors to death by bombarding your visitors with a long list of questions. Keep the number of question to a minimum unless you intend to make your visitors feel frustrated. Do not ask for any confidential information and if your registration form requires email id of your users, you should be make it explicit that the id will not be used for any promotional purpose.
No Music: People bump on to your website to get some information and they are not so interested to listen to your website’s background music. Some designers go even extreme and add different music in different web page which is ridiculous.
