The moment you stepped into the shoes of a website designer, advice seems coming thick and fast, poring in from all fronts and when you start recovering from this delirium, you are almost finished, at least your creative streak. Plenty of such official and unofficial rules are there when you put on the garb of a website designer and they are commonly referred as web design myths that you have to encounter in your career more than once. However, if you ever manage to put a brave face putting your career at stake, you can make a real difference. But why should you take the risk when everything seems perfect and you are getting enough to enjoy a peaceful holiday and a fun filled weekend. Simple, because it is worth it.

Though some ideas seem quite perfect, but believe us, most of them are outdated or gross misrepresentation of actual facts. So, it is the perfect time, take out some time from your busy schedule and find out which myths are and which are not.

Three Seconds: - You are being told, taught and propagated regularly that an average user spends 3 seconds in a website to decide whether the website worth the time or not. But experts are of the opinions that modern users are far more sophisticated and they are relaxed when they visit a website. So that means, you do not have cram things up in the above the fold section. Visitors do crawl down to find out more interesting thing however, as expected, you should not feature blank page in the above the fold section if you are to seize the attention of the users.

Graphics Enhances Experience: This is probably one of the most fiercely debated issues in the website design field. Graphics do enhance experience but that does not necessarily mean you have to overuse it. The worst thing about graphic is that it increases loading time of a website and so, if you are in n o mood to play with the patience with users, you should discard this plan at the earliest.

Navigation: This is another popular misconception that has still large number of followers. You are repeatedly being told that a webpage should not be more than three clicks away from the home page. Now, take a deep breath and think quietly, how is that possible. Internet is evolving and so do the websites. Modern websites are far more complicated and therefore, how can you stick to this primitive principle. It sometime appears ludicrous and funny to impose such restriction.

Flash is Evil: There are some self propagated SEO Gurus who are virtually killing the prospect of Flash by denouncing it as severely as possible. Flash contrary to every popular belief, is very much SEO friendly. All you need to do is to add as much texts as oppose to images as possible. Google can read flash and there is every possibility of securing top ranking in Google even if your website is based on flash.

Design Can be Done Without Content: Absolutely wrong. However how can you place the ‘request a quote’ button and other important elements of a website if you do not have the content? You can design something rough with dummy text but without content, you website will always have the rough edges. You need to have the content first around which the design will be built.
