No, not on computers, on paper with pencil. This post is dedicated to those good old times and will describe how sketching with pencil on a paper will help you in logo designing.

Here are the reasons why I advise you to sketch the old-fashioned way.

You will be able to think deeper: When a logo design company takes up a new project, several ideas come flooding into the minds of designers. Using a paper and pencil to sketch these ideas as they arrive would help them think deeper and out of the box because that way their imagination won’t be confined by technical limitations.

You can go anywhere and sketch: If you are a logo designer, taking your laptop to wherever you go is not something uncommon for you. But if you try taking a sketchbook and pencil instead, you will realize that it is even more convenient than a laptop. Sketch anything that comes to your mind – Or anything that you see around you and feel interested in. Begin with a simple circle or a straight line and give wings to your imagination!

Don’t be set back by mistakes – You might not have sketched anything with pencil since you were in school. So, mistakes are bound to occur. Don’t be upset. Starbucks, one of the biggest coffee chains of the world, recently introduced a new nameless logo. Though the new logo design highlights the company’s signature twin-tailed siren, it no longer includes the words ‘Coffee’ and ‘Starbucks’. The introduction of a nameless logo has sparked off a controversy regarding its usefulness.

Most people believe that nameless logos only work for companies who have already established themselves as a brand. Probably that is the reason why Starbucks did not hesitate to take this bold step.

Logos can be broadly divided into three categories-

Typographic logos- Typographic logos highlight the company’s name in unusual and creative ways. A good example of a company that uses typographic logo is Calvin Klein. The logo of this company highlights the initials of the company name in an interesting way.

Since typographical logo involves only playing around with text and fonts, many assume that it is easy to design. However, the reality is different. Designers have to choose a unique font to distinguish the logo in midst of thousands of others.
